There are installable packages for older versions of MacOS available at
www.gnubg.org but there were reports that they don't necessarily run well
on later versions. See for instance :

The only solution currently available seems to be using macports
( https://www.macports.org/ ), as suggested in the message above. This is
certainly more onerous than installing a pre-built package but this system
is widely used and well documented.
