Sorry about this. Just to recap. Brenda reported the missing toolbar
problem. I replied to try the F11 or Esc button, and Brenda reported that
it worked fine.
I consider the Gdk error problem as a new issue.

So... I assume you are using this on a windows computer, Brenda? To me it
looks like the settings files are stored (at default) in the following
directory:
C:\Users\<username>\.gnubg\

Can you check this directory and look for the files .gnubgrc and
.gnubgautorc . Can you attach these files to an reply to this message?

You can also try to confirm my suspicion by renaming these two files, and
re-launch GNU Backgammon. If it then starts, I think we can solve the
problem.
