Hi Steven,

I'm sorry you are having trouble getting started with GNU Backgammon. Do
persevere - it's well worth the effort. I think I might be able to solve
your problem.

Firstly, you mentioned that you have to press Ctrl+f to carry on. Ctrl+F is
the shortcut to finish the move.

This makes me think that *you aren't completing your move by clicking on
the dice to "pick up the dice ", which indicates that you have finished
your move.*

Here is a link to the online tutorial which has more details.
https://www.gnu.org/software/gnubg/manual/gnubg.html#gnubg-playing

If that doesn't work, check that you have set gnubg to play as the
opponent. Press the New button and check that you have selected GNU
Backgammon vs. Human.

You might also wish to experiment with the Settings, Options .

And, if you haven't discovered them yet, in Settings, Board Appearance
there are some nice options for how the board looks. There is even a
Jellyfish setting!

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.
 Regards,
Ian Shaw
