Overall, the point of rms's comments here is/was to state what we all agree with: we want useful warnings, and don't want useless ones, and we want code that's as readable as possible, not cluttered with useless casts or wrappers. Of course, none of these things are black&white. The particular text here is one of his instances of more casual writing in the GCS, not to be taken literally or dogmatically. Thanks, k
