Once functional, it generates an installable project. Client projects can test for the existence of libposix and quit if not present or not recent enough. The "configure" step becomes very short. That is an attempt to make a portable library that is not a backfill project, but a replacement project. gnulib is a backfill project, with a bunch of "extras" tossed in. The Source Forge project is also: * a direct competitor to glibc * has shown little activity since a year ago It may keep going, but it has a very long way to go and will likely never be as portable as gnulib.
