As per the following, the (currently non-existent) "ig" flavor of pipe-filter would enable a simple implementation of a useful grep patch. Perhaps it would be worth recording this fact in pipe-filter.h as a motivator?

I have a design for this, but I have not implemented it, as it would be easy to implement given an implementation in gnulib of the "ig" flavour of pipe-filter, which currently does not exist. That would enable a simple and non-invasive patch. If pipe-filter-ig is forthcoming, I'll happily produce the patch, which would add a --filter=PROGRAM flag which pipes all input through the given filter. Transparent decompression is achieved by making the filter "zcat". _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/patch/?6107> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ -- http://rrt.sc3d.org
