As mentioned at the top of this file, it is included in both the GNU Make manual and the GNU Coding Standards. Personally I think that the text is well readable as is, and does not risk confusion. It is perfectly OK to have additional words in a text that simply make it more fluid to read, and to avoid repetition of conditions that are implicit from context. Bruno
