I doesn't really change a lot, but it does shift most of the handling
of Focus to the front-end (which knows more about the state of the
windows). I think it fixes a few problems, but there are still Focus
issues. I wanted to get this out of the way, so I can work more on
documenting the backend and some other fixes.
