I am no expert for Ubuntu and I normally don't use GNustep from
packages. With that said I think that you are facing two different
problems. NO idea what goes wrong for the self compiled ProjectCenter,
but the error message you get for the packaged one sounds as if you
don't have GNUstep back installed at all. Or if you have that installed,
you may have a .GNUstepDefaults file lying around from an older version
and there have a hard coded reference to libgnustep-back-018.bundle.
The best thing to do is to find out what version of back is actually
installed on your system and make sure that the defaults file points to
that.

Gorm and SystemPreferences give similar errors.
I haven't been able to get anything (Gorm, SystemPreferences, etc.) running
on the two previous versions of Ubuntu either (10.10 and 10.04).
