Dave's analysis is correct.

I'm closing this an invalid.  If any groff options not already supported by
nroff are desired, please file a "Wish" severity ticket on Savannah
identifying which one(s) and articulating a plausible use case.  (For example,
I believe the omission of `-e` and `-p` to have been deliberate, because
nroff-mode devices are generally not capable of coping adequately with the
output of the eqn and pic preprocessors.  Also, `-e` already had a different
meaning in AT&T nroff.)
