As has been shown in
https://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/groff/2023-04/msg00097.html , the changes
made under bug #62688 actually do the exact opposite of what is claimed in
that bug - the changes result in less faithful rendering of historic
documents.
Other examples of documents that are negatively affected by that change can be
found in https://github.com/n-t-roff/Plan9_troff/tree/master/sys/doc
