Follow-up Comment #3:
The patch proposed here could be a useful diagnostic tool for someone who
wants to take on maintenance of hdtbl. But no one seems to think it should be
applied to git, so I'm removing the "[PATCH]" annotation from the Summary. In
other words, while the bug itself isn't being rejected, the patch is.
