Looking at the code change to font/devps/devps.am, it seems this commit was
accidentally to blame. That is, devps.am seemingly _should_ have been using
my system's /etc/papersize setting of "a4" all along. But my /etc/papersize
specifies it exactly like that--with a lowercase "a"--and devps.am was
explicitly testing for the exact string "A4", and falling back to "letter" for
anything that wasn't "A4". So by now accepting any paper size in
/etc/papersize, devps.am now also overturns the prior (presumably
unintentional) case-sensitivity.
I've never modified /etc/papersize; my installation of libpaper came with it
that way by default. So I'm sure I won't be the only one surprised by groff's
more liberal acceptance of this file's contents. Good to have it in NEWS.
