Doug McIlroy suggested "reference point" as the name of the class of
position-qualifying points of a _pic_ object.
The "midpoint" idea is mine.

No objections seen to either.
The "midpoint" rename is with respect to a brand-new feature, so requires no
migration or deprecation period.
