Follow-up Comment #2, bug #67408 (group groff):

There's a similar problem with our _ms_ macros.

$ groff -C -ms
troff:/.../share/groff/1.23.0/tmac/s.tmac:39: warning: expected numeric
expression, got character 'd'
troff:/.../share/groff/1.23.0/tmac/s.tmac:40: warning: expected numeric
expression, got character 'd'
troff:/.../share/groff/1.23.0/tmac/s.tmac:45: error: end of file while
defining macro '@d'

The problem is that delimiters in AT&T _troff_ are more contextual than in GNU
_troff_. Sometimes numerals can be delimiters, and sometimes they can't. So,
in compatibility mode, our parser is going to have to keep track of these
contexts.
