This warning was introduced sometime after 1.23.

My system has the Linux Libertine fonts installed under the family name L, but
any font family with a large numbers of glyphs should exhibit the problem.

$ printf '.fam L\nHello.\n' | groff -Tpdf > /dev/null
gropdf: warning:
Font 'LinLibertine (LR)' has 2741 glyphs
You would see a noticeable speedup if you install the perl module Inline::C

$ echo $?
4

The PDF produced (even if much more complex than this test case) is flawless,
so the exit code should not be one of failure.
