I was trying to use the GRUB on my 486 66 I have sitting around in my
closet and the grub doesn't seem to read the hardrives I stick in it.

I have a 122M Quantum with 970 (or so) cylinders 16 heads and 17
sectors. roughly...

I stick an ext2fs filesystem on the first and only partition. Its also
the primary master and there are no other IDE devices.

GRUB gives me the error:

> root= (hd0,0)
filesystem type unknown, partition type 0x83

I boot it with my pentium machine and everything works fine. It
detects it as ext2 and I can boot.

also if its on secondary master and I have another HD on primary, it
says "Read error".

Is there anything I can try? It looks like the bios isn't very good or
something.

for the record, LILO boots fine.
