Hi, ive got two things id like to bring up.

The first relates to linux root raid0 v0.9 support. Second regarding a more
graphical boot screen.

Currently the linux kernel supports booting from linear or striped raid
partitions, but bootloaders wont boot from stripped partitions. Apparently
it can boot from linear partitions ok as each linear partition behavs as a
normal ext2 partion.

To get linux root raid0 to boot requires a seperate non-raid boot partition
where you place your kernel and other bootmanager files, once the kernel
boots it can work out which partitions from each drive belong to a
partitcular raid0 partition (eg /dev/md0) via a persistent superblock that
contains info on other disk/partitions that it belongs to.

How feasible would it be to get grub to be able to locate this superblock
and be able to understand the composition of multidisk partitions and
therefore be able to boot from root raid0 without requiring an intermediate
partition.

I think raid0 is a powerfull yet underutilised feature as it takes a fair
bit of fiddling around to get up and running.

The second thing id love to see in a boot manager is a flashy bootup screen.
If you could specify a graphics image (.bmp or .png whatever) to be
displayed in the background whilst choosing which OS to boot, it would be
pretty cool.

I dont have much knowledge of grub, i know a bit about raid but im still no
expert. I realise these features would only be appreciated by a minority of
users and you probably have more fundamental issues too deal with.

No harm in mentioning it though eh. I can code a bit, i might be able to get
around to it in a few months if nobody else is interested.

Thanks
