Ah, excellent!  I checked out the CVS tree, but configure complains
about GAS .code16 addr32 support.  Is
ftp://metalab.unc.edu/pub/gnu/binutils/binutils-2.9.1.tar.gz new
enough?  Mine is 2.9.1.0.25.  I didn't see a binutils on
alpha.gnu.org.
