I'm afraid that GRUB couldn't work, either. There was a discussion
about the floppy geometry detection in this list, but the problem is
pending, since nobody thought of any better way.

As Gordon said, the answer is yes but that's not so reliable. If you
only need Linux-based system, using initrd would be better.
