Ah, yes, I see now. The INSTALL file doesn't get installed by the packages
scripts (it shouldn't), but NEWS does.

This seems to be a change in behaviour, and gratuitous one, too, because it
worked before. Therefore I'm filing this as a bug to the Debian BTS. One
could argue that it's of higher severity, because it effectively made my
system unbootable, but there is a workaround (loading a kernel image from
<1024 cyls).

Anyway, I rebuilt grub (from CVS) with that option, and it now works fine.

Please provide a run-time switch/option to enable us people with Gigabyte

Okay, here goes:

grub.texi patch:

 * I moved "@c %**end of header" magic line a little down in the file
because I saw other documents use that (texinfo), and otherwise it seemed
logical to include those tags in header, not text.
 * Deunified fn, ky and tp indices, didn't seem relevant. Perhaps something
changed in the document in the meantime, haven't looked.
 * Added "@footnotestyle separate", "@paragraphindent 3" and "@finalout",
better style IMHO. Yes, this is purely cosmetical :)
 * Added @subtitle, and more text below... seems quite obvious why.
 * Commented out second appearance of "@vskip 0pt plus 1filll"... why
   was that there twice?

tutorial.texi patch:

 * [at row 230] Added/changed the intro sentence.
 * Moved irrelevant things out of @quotation tag.
 * Added a note about MBR, because it only seems fair to mention a free
program if you already mention a commercial one (DOS FDISK).
 * [at row 358] Made the entries for GNU/Hurd and GNU/Linux enumerated
lists, like other similar sections are.
 * [at row 595] Revamped the `Configuration' section by including bits
of the menu file example in the text and commenting specifically on
each part of it. This way it's more readable, because you don't have
to go up and down the info page when you try to examine it, and
additionally it makes sure the document doesn't get out of sync with
external menu.lst file that can be changed accidentally/intentionally.

All other changes (in case I haven't forgotten or overseen something)
are grammar, spelling and style fixes. A native speaker could still find
room for improvement, I admit, but this is a start.

Are the explanations okay? :)
