I don't quite understand what you mean. Of course, I have seen complaints
about old binutils. I don't see anything wrong here. Indeed, *BSD use old
versions on Binutils that don't support 16-bit code properly.
Do you mean that something is wrong with GRUB? What exactly? If your
problem is that recent *BSD still use old Binutils it's not the right list
to discuss it (IMO).
