I am using a Gateway Solo 5150, running a 2GB HD, with Mandrake Linux 7.1
only (No Windows, DOS, BEos, nothing else). The machine has been working
fine for a week. The other night I shutdown my laptop. The next morning I
started to get STAGE1 STAGE2 then the grub> prompt. I'm not sure what I
did, all I know is I want to get my data back since I hadn't gotten SAMBA up
and running so I hadn't copied anything off.

Right now, if I type in root at the grub> prompt I get:

(hd0,4): filesystem type is ext2fs, partition type 0x83

If I do a find for /vmlinuz it finds it at (hd0,0).

I have looked through the FAQ, I have looked at Caldera's site, I have asked
in Linux forums, and everyone has told me to rebuild the OS, and install
LILO. I do not believe this is a workable solution. I would appreciate any
and all help on this one. If there is something I missed in my search
please point me to it, if there is something you need to know to help me
out, please let me know. Thank you.

Drew.
