When I wrote "useful", I was meaning "useful to implement this in an
automated manner". Because you still can pass those parameters to the
kernel (by modifying /boot/grub/menu.lst) and they will then be
displayed in /proc/cmdline. But I am not the correct person to judge
wether it is useful or not. My point is that it would be a
linux-specific feature, that LILO is linux-specific but that GRUB is
not.
