Hi!

In short we have the following situation:

1) Best Linux 2000 R3 (close to RedHat 6.2) - egcs 1.1.2, kernel
2.2.16-24, everything else appropriate.
Compile grub - 0.5.94, install - everything works fine.

2) Best Linux T-1 - gcc 2.95, kernel 2.4.0-final...
Grub 0.5.96 (Jan 9 2001) compiles OK, on install says: Disk write error!

But 0.5.94 compiled on old system (1), works fine everywhere. Compile
whatever on new - error on install.
Compile 0.5.96 on old - error!

We have tried this new 0.5.96 on three different computers with
different compilers etc. - the same stable effect! ;(

So, the only working combination is: old grub compiled on old system.
Then it works everywhere ;( But doesn't have latest nice features... ;(

Please, help!
