Hmm I originally tried something similar to this but ran into the

I'm going to actively try to get it in again...but the submission process for
Linux is ...uhhmmm...less then ideal.
However regardless of my patch this still allows normal initrd images to be
split into multiple files (IE accross multiple floppies).
Since the support of specing multiple instances of initrd already is supported
in GRUB...why not make it work and apply your patch? : >
