I've got a same problem. I don't know the reason, but I
solve the problem by remaking kernel.
Now, I run debian woody with kernel 2.4.1 & ReiserFS.
ii grub 0.5.96.1
ii reiserfsprogs 3.0.20001019-3
$ dmesg | grep -i reiser
reiserfs: replayed 1 transactions in 3 seconds
reiserfs: using 3.5.x disk format
ReiserFS version 3.6.25
VFS: Mounted root (reiserfs filesystem) readonly.
reiserfs:warning: CONFIG_REISERFS_CHECK is set ON
reiserfs:warning: - it is slow mode for debugging.
reiserfs: checking transaction log (device 03:03) ...
reiserfs: using 3.5.x disk format
ReiserFS version 3.6.25
