I see you are using Mozilla. In Mozilla you have only 3 options : o compose a new message o reply to the sender of a message o reply to all listed in the To: and Cc: headers You are choosing the first option which breaks the threading. The second option sends a private reply to the sender but not to the list. The third is what you want, although it has the unpleasant side effect of sending the previous sender a duplicate copy via private mail. I highly recommend trying out mutt as a mailer. It has a fourth option called "list-reply" which sends a reply only to the list found in the To: or Cc; headers and to anyone who explicitly requested a duplicate via the Mail-Followup-To: header.
