All writing to the hard drive should be preceded by a check to see if what is about to 
be written is the same as what is already there. If it is the same, then no writing 
should be done. Otherwise, a menu.lst file like below will always write the MBR three 
times for every reboot! (This is for the unhide, hide, and makeactive. savedefault 
already checks and will not write if there was no change.) Note, this is for version 
0.91.
