So the dumb interface exists. It would be overkill to even
add another interface, IMO.

=================== BUG #1647: FULL BUG SNAPSHOT ===================

Summary: Would like a text-mode boot option ala LILO

Original Submission: I apologize if this is just something I'm missing, because it
sure seems odd to me that it isn't there; in any case, the only way I've found to get
a text-mode boot (meaning, something that doesn't make my monitor "mode-switch"), is
to remove menu.lst altogether, which does give me a text-mode boot, but just to the
grub> prompt. I'm not looking to go quite that minimalist. :) What I'm looking for
is something that presents information in plain text mode, like LILO, but has the same
functionality of the current pseudo-graphical interface. I know you can remove the
"splashimage" file (I already did), but the effect is still the same (although the
background is blank now :)).

For one thing not all terminals is happy with the psuedo-graphical menu.

Sometimes when working over serial I do agree that having a really simple boot "menu"
similar to the lilo prompt would be very nice.

Suggestion:

Grub: [entryname]

* if no keyboard activity before timeout, boot default entry

* to select a entry, type the name of the entry

* to boot a selected entry, press enter

* to edit a selected entry, press Control-E

* Tab completetion can be used to speed up typing. If multiple matches are found,
complete up to the first differing character. If no characters can be added by tab
completetion print all matching entries.

* (optional) Control-N and Control-P can be used to navigate up/down in the menu,
starting at the default entry (or first matching entry in case of partial entry).

* To exit to the grub> command line prompt, press Control-C.

Just a suggestion..
