Here is some info from my system, seems that Red Hat packaged the GNU tarball but otherwise it is unchanged and the command seems to be in there (and work): [root@xx root]# which grub /sbin/grub [root@xx root]# grub --version grub (GNU GRUB 0.91) GRUB version 0.91 (640K lower / 3072K upper memory) [ Minimal BASH-like line editing is supported. For the first word, TAB lists possible command completions. Anywhere else TAB lists the possible completions of a device/filename. ] grub> help savedefault savedefault: savedefault [--stage2=STAGE2_FILE] [--default=DEFAULT] [--once] Save DEFAULT as the default boot entry in STAGE2_FILE. If '--once' is specified, the default is reset after the next reboot. [root@xx root]# rpm -qli grub Name : grub Relocations: (not relocateable) Version : 0.91 Vendor: Red Hat, Inc.
