Dear Grubies, Two questions:
1. What is the output of the geometry command ? It consistently reports an old 340 MB disk with geometry cyl 1010 heads 12, sec/track 55, total # of sectors 666600 as 1009 12 55 665940 and omits one whole cylinder. Old Phoenix BIOS correctly autodetects the disk as 1010 12 55 Knoppix (based on Debian woody) correctly identifies it as 1010 12 55. 2. Having booted from an El Torrito CD in floppy emulation fails when I try to chainloader (fd1)+1 boot yields GRUB and nothing more chainloader (fd0)+1 boot boots again (correctly ?) the boot record from the El Torrito floppy image. Since I had successfully swapped hard disks (scsi 0x81/ide 0x80) with map (hd0) (hd1) map (hd1) (hd0) here I had to chainload the physical 0x81 disk with chainloader (hd1)+1 boot to get the system booting from the scsi disk, I would have expected that chainloader (fd0)+1 might have found the physical floppy, but how to get back to the El Torrito. regards and best wishes for the new year -- Bernhard Treutwein, IuK, Ref.
