Follow-up Comment #2, bug #27094 (project grub):

I don't have access to an xnu system i can boot with grub, so i'm not sure
how to correctly implement such a transition.

I can verify that solutions similar to those proposed in
http://bugs.debian.org/538099 work for the Linux kernel, though.

I'd be happy to submit a patch just for Linux using GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX if
you'd prefer that to be the environment variable chosen.

Or i could submit a patch that uses a generic GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD if present
before all kinds of kernls, and a GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX for linux kernels if
it is present, falling back to GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD, falling back to nothing.

would that be acceptable to get this included upstream?
