Summary: Grub fails to boot with "error: cannot get C/H/S values" while probing non-existant floppies Project: GNU GRUB Submitted by: fang0654 Submitted on: Fri 05 Feb 2010 02:48:19 AM GMT Category: Booting Severity: Major Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: None Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: Daniel Lawson Originator Email: dlaw...@metstaff.com Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Release: Release: 1.97 Reproducibility: Every Time Planned Release: None _______________________________________________________ Details: Using 1.97~beta4, with Ubuntu Server 9.10 x64. I have two drives, configured as a raid 1 with dmraid. When booting, I get the following: GRUB Loading. error: cannot get C/H/S values grub rescue> >From there, if i type ls, I get the following: (md0) (md1) (hd0) (hd0,5) (hd0,1) (hd1) (hd1,5) (hd1,1) (fd0) (fd1) error: cannot get C/H/S values There is a 1 second delay between displaying (hd1,1) and displaying (fd0). There are no floppy drives installed on my system, and the floppy is disabled in the BIOS. Interestingly enough, if I re-enable the floppy in the BIOS, and attach a physical floppy drive, the server boots fine. If I install grub with just a single hard drive, it also works fine. Seems to only be when dmraid is involved. Attached is device.map and grub.cfg. _______________________________________________________ File Attachments: ------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri 05 Feb 2010 02:48:19 AM GMT Name: grub.cfg Size: 4kB By: fang0654 <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/download.php?file_id=19625> ------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri 05 Feb 2010 02:48:19 AM GMT Name: device.map Size: 30B By: fang0654 <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/download.php?file_id=19626> _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?28815> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ _______________________________________________ Bug-grub mailing list Bug-grub@gnu.org http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-grub
