Details:
Booting a linux kernel on a fairly old desktop which only has
apm,
Grub2) With grub 2, the linux apm module will not load:
"error inserting apm ... no such device .."
Thus it is impossible to power off that machine remotely.
Grub1) With legacy grub1, precisely the same kernel(s) boot
properly, the apm module can load, and thus the system
powers off on shutdown.
So it seems that grub2 somehow prevents apm from being recognised
subsequently by the kernel. Maybe there is some sort of acpi
assumption which fouls up apm?
Tested on debian testing grub2 1.98-1 .
{Not reported via debian bug since debian kernels don't support
apm at all. )
