Follow-up Comment #1, bug #29572 (project grub):
With biosdisk grub uses exclusively BIOS calls to access disk drives. So I
believe that your BIOS bugs when disks are in sata mode and booted by PXE.
Please upgrade your BIOS and PXE ROM. If problem persists contact
manufacturer.
grub has ata module which accesses disk directly but it doesn't work with
ahci. ahci is on TODO list but difficult to say when todo will become done
