Follow-up Comment #1, bug #30574 (project grub): Hi. I think this bug shows itself on my computer. I've recently done a clean install of ubuntu 10.04 and now I can no longer get to my second windows XP installation from the grub2 menu.
Before installing ubuntu 10.04 I had ubuntu 9.?? and grub1, I had no problems getting to my second window XP using that setup. While searching for a solution to my problem I found bug report #29977 (I assume this bug report is the new bug report mentioned from #29977) and followed the steps inside it but I still have the problem. ---- I'm still fairly new to grub and linux and I'm not fully on top of the terminology. e.g. I know hd1 and sdb are hard-discs but I'm not sure if they always represent the same hard-disc. I've got 4 hardiscs, the last two are set up as RAID. My bios says all discs are controlled by the RAID BIOS. Grub shows my second hard disc (which has my second copy of XP) as hd*1*, Ubuntu shows my second harddisc as sd*c*. When grub.cfg is generated, for the menu entry of my second XP the root is set to hd2,1 - so I'm never going to get to my second XP using the menu. ---- >From bug report #29977 this is what I've done: - I got the grub trunk mentioned, compiled it, installed grub2 and created grub.cfg. - From grub2s command line I did ls (hd0,1) and got the directory listing of my first XP. - From grub2s command line I did ls (hd1,1) and got the directory listing of my second XP. - I tried: root=(hd1,1) drivemap -s (hd0) (hd1) chainloader (hd1,1)+1 boot and got a black screen with a cursor blinking in the top left corner. - I tried: root=(hd1,1) drivemap -s (hd0) (hd1) chainloader (hd1)+1 boot and got a black screen with a cursor blinking in the top left corner. - I tried: root=(hd1,1) chainloader (hd1,1)+1 boot and my computer booted into my first XP. - I tried: root=(hd1,1) chainloader (hd1)+1 boot and my computer booted into my first XP. Bazzarly, I can get into my second XP if I go to grub2s command line and just type exit. If I can be of any help tracking this bug down let me know.
