Summary: Grub2-EFI needs to enable GOP to boot on Toshiba w/7670m Project: GNU GRUB Submitted by: snakehaveyou Submitted on: vie 04 abr 2014 17:08:28 GMT Category: Booting Severity: Major Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Action Request Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: SnakeHaveYou Originator Email: nico.ch...@gmail.com Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Release: Release: 2.00 Reproducibility: Every Time Planned Release: None _______________________________________________________ Details: Here's the problem: When you try to boot OpenSUSE 13.1/Fedora 20(non tested with other distros) in UEFI mode, the UI and terminal screen will be shifted and corrupted with artifacts, or flashing. Here are some pics of the shifted screen: http://s1203.photobucket.com/user/SnakeHaveYou/media/20140322_010242_Night.jpg.html http://s1203.photobucket.com/user/SnakeHaveYou/media/20140322_010401_Night.jpg.html And here's a video of the flashing screen (only with Kernel 3.14): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogcsVK-6q6c How to reproduce?: Configuration 1: - Kernel: 3.14 - Video driver: Open Source Radeon driver - Bootloader: Grub2-EFI - Issue: Flashing screen (even on console). Vertical lines. No mouse. - Workaround: None Configuration 2: - Kernel: 3.11 to 3.13 - Video driver: Proprietary Catalyst. Latest beta - Bootloader: Grub2-EFI - Issue: Shifted screen. Vertical lines. Mouse on screen (pointer with artifacts) - Workaround: Suspend and wake up system fix the issue. Will appear again after a restart. When i can't reproduce it?: Configuration 3: - Kernel: 3.11 to 3.13 - Video driver: Open Source Radeon - Bootloader: Grub2-EFI - Issue: None Configuration 4: - Kernel: 3.11 to 3.13 - Video driver: Proprietary and Open Source - Bootloader: rEFInd ONLY with GOP enabled - Issue: None Configuration 5: - Kernel: 3.14 - Video driver: Open Source Radeon - Bootloader: rEFInd ONLY with GOP enabled - Issue: None Configuration 6: - With a non-EFI installation, i can;t reproduce the issue My workaround is: Install rEFInd and enable GOP mode in refind.conf. This is the only way i found to fix the issue.. Seems to be that there are some incompatibilities between the 7670m and/or Toshiba laptops with Grub2-EFI video modes. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?42051> _______________________________________________ Mensaje enviado vía/por Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ _______________________________________________ Bug-grub mailing list Bug-grub@gnu.org https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-grub
