Follow-up Comment #9, bug #45021 (project grub):
I tried to create pool using new empty disk and no label was created;
grub-install was successful. I then run "fdisk -I /dev/ada1" and got exactly
your situation - msdos label with simgle whole disk 0x85 partition and zpool.
Of course grub-install returned the same error as you observed. This is grub
version 2.00 (whatever was installed by pkg on 10.1-RELEASE VM); so it did
*not* work before as expected.
You need to provide convincing arguments why you insist on having partition
label on vdev while using whole disk for vdev.
