It didn't work. This is what I did:
$make clean
$vi grub-core/kern/i386/pc/init.c
## commented out those lines
$make -j8
$sudo ./grub-install --directory ./grub-core
--boot-directory=/media/<MyUser>/3468-1B2C/boot
--root-directory=/media/<MyUser>/3468-1B2C /dev/sdc
