Summary: An DEFAULT option acpi_osi="Linux" is required Project: GNU GRUB Submitted by: tedo Submitted on: Mon 14 Aug 2017 08:20:57 AM UTC Category: Configuration Severity: Major Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: Action Request Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: Tedo Vrbanec Originator Email: tedo.vrba...@gmail.com Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Release: Release: 2.02 Reproducibility: None Planned Release: None _______________________________________________________ Details: For years I had the same problem on several laptops. Without any reason, regardless of whether the computer was working intense or idle, the computer would freeze. This could happen several times a day or once a month. The Syslog left no trace. Two weeks ago it came on my mind one option in grub: acpi_osi="Linux", I inserted it into /etc/default/grub, made update-grub, and since then there was no freeze at all. Moreover, the whole computer runs faster and the CPU is less loaded. I don't understand: if Linux is to be installed, why acpi_osi="Linux" isn't default? Moreover, why kernel answer to BIOS with 'false', when BOIS ask kernel wheatear it is Linux?
