Summary: Unclear grub-install documentation Project: GNU GRUB Submitted by: saltyhorse Submitted on: Fri 08 Dec 2017 12:25:50 PM UTC Category: Documentation Severity: Major Priority: 5 - Normal Item Group: None Status: None Privacy: Public Assigned to: None Originator Name: Originator Email: Open/Closed: Open Discussion Lock: Any Release: Release: Git master Reproducibility: None Planned Release: None _______________________________________________________ Details: The documentation for grub-install is vague in several places: 1) In the "Installing GRUB using grub-install" section it says: >The usage is basically very simple. You only need to specify one >argument to the program, namely, where to install the boot loader. The >argument has to be either a device file (like @samp{/dev/hda}). Only one option follows "either". What's the other option? 2) The "BIOS installation" section describes two ways to install GRUB: * in the area between the MBR and the first partition * the core image can be installed in a file system and a list of the blocks that make it up can be stored in the first sector of that partition. There is no information on how to perform each option. _______________________________________________________ Reply to this item at: <http://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/?52625> _______________________________________________ Message sent via/by Savannah http://savannah.gnu.org/ _______________________________________________ Bug-grub mailing list Bug-grub@gnu.org https://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/bug-grub
