Symptom: When UEFI boot manager runs grub-x86_64.efi, the screen immediately
turns black and the affected machine hangs, or seems to hang.
First occurred after commit in branch master at 2023-05-25 16:48:00 +0200,

(determined by bisecting seach)
This happens only on one out of three tested machines, when booting the same
grub-x86_64.efi file:
- Gigabyte board Z77X-UD5H (ok)
- VirtualBox 7.0.8 running on Latitude 7490 (ok)
- Dell Latitude 7490 (==> NOT OK)
All with Secure Boot turned off.
I will be happy to run more test, but would need instructions.
