Setting GRUB_GFXMODE=1024x768 in /etc/default/grub works around the issue. My
guess would be that all VBE supported resolutions work, but UEFI resolutions
exceeding VBE crash the firmware. No sure how many other Lenovo laptops from
the era are affected by this issue – this one is a bit special since its an
“AMD edition”, when almost all others were Intel-only or Intel+NVidia
based (even the “Lenovo ideapad Y700-ISK” uses this more typical
combination), so it might be highly specific to this hardware or broadly
affect Lenovo systems of the time.

I only noticed this issue since Debian no longer limits GFX resolution by
default since Debian 13 (trixie).
