I tested with 4.3.1 today, _with_ optimizer, and the test suite passed. To me it looks like the problem was introduced between 4.3.1 and 4.3.2. I have to admit that this gcc 4.3.1 was itself compiled with a little patch applied to fix some compilation problems with glibc, so it's not a vanilla gcc. I can provide details on this if required.
