It was gcc 2.95, that the owner had installed and apparently maybe slightly 
flubbed,
lots of warnings about va_list.
 
I'm up to 4.3 now though. alpha-dec-osf4.0g

I figure IF it is C, might as well be C89. But that's me.
Microsoft C I don't think supports C99, except // comments long ago and 
recently long long.
