Regarding this task:

Does anyone have any idea on what this shared memory feature is for? What
exactly is the shared memory X11 server supposed to do, compared to an
ordinary X11 server, by being implemented in shared memory? Why is it
desirable?

Thanks for any clues. :)

I'm working on a full set of VESA VBE 3.0 features for Mach/Hurd, including
audio (VESA's VBE 3.0 also aims to standardise the interface to audio
devices), so this is very interesting to me.

James
