Actually I would prefer having a fix now to having a clean rewrite someday. 

Even better would be a set of small fixes which lead over many ever improved 
stable versions to a version which is similar to the one which we’d get with a 
clean rewrite :-)

But a fix is no blocker to a rewrite. Rather the opposite: If the fix makes 
the Hurd more useful to people, then the chances of a really clean rewrite 
become bigger (I think). … Not that this approach worked for Linux, but there 
has to be an exception… ;-)
