Hello,

Inetutils’ ifconfig lacks ‘up’ and ‘down’ for instance:

  $ sudo ifconfig eth0 down
  ifconfig: can not resolve `down': Unknown host

It’s very likely that Ubuntu’s boot scripts tried to use that.
