Also, in the manual, \notes \property \set Voice.fingerHorizontalDirection = #LEFT lacks the \set, but in the text it says to "set" it.
If you the first paragraphs of the section "Tuning Output" of the Reference Manual, you will see that translation properties are set using the syntax
\property Context.propertyName = value
You only use \set or \override to set properties of objects.
